A primeira peça que vi do Sneb ao vivo é, para mim, uma das melhores representações dos 4 elementos do Hip Hop.

Este writer da zona de Oeiras faz parte dos Polichromatics Monters (PLM) e é um monstro do graff.

A pintar há mais de 20 anos, o seu gosto reparte-se pelo lettering e pelos characters.

Aqui têm a sua entrevista.

Qual é o significado do teu tag?

Não tem qualquer significado, surgiu na procura das letras que mais gostava de desenhar.

Quando começou o teu interesse pelo graffiti e quais foram as tuas influências na altura?

O meu interesse pelo Graffiti começou em 99, quando vim viver para Oeiras. A entrada da minha rua tinha uma peça mítica do grande Exas que despertou algo dentro de mim. Eu ainda não percebia bem o que era o Graffiti mas tive a sorte de crescer entre Oeiras e Carcavelos, onde o movimento Hip Hop era muito forte naquela época, isso fez o meu interesse crescer e apaixonei-me completamente pela Cultura e pelos seus elementos. Sendo uma criança que sempre gostou de desenhar, senti logo que o Graffiti era o caminho a seguir.

As minhas influências foram bastantes, o grande EXAS, todos os membros dos PRM, crews como LGN, GVS, TSK, 3M, REK, DS, R1, DBK, FYA e CPK e também MACLAIM, GÉMEOS, LOOMIT e DAIM, entre muitos outros.

Como era a cena no graffiti quando começaste?

“Uma era linda quando ainda ninguém ria por extenso”

Era brutal, mano, era um movimento mais underground. Eras visto como um vândalo, fizesses Fame ou Bombing, e naquele tempo os elementos estavam todos interligados, onde havia Graff havia Rap, onde havia Djs havia Breakdance. Então, sentias mesmo orgulho em ser um Writer, sentias que fazias parte de algo, que davas o teu contributo à Cultura e isso parece que se foi perdendo, infelizmente.

Eu sinto-me sortudo porque acho que a minha geração foi das últimas a ter crescido numa Era em que tinhas de andar na rua para ver Graffiti, ir a lojas de street wear para ver revistas de Graff, andar de comboio de Lisboa a Cascais só para ver peças novas na linha. Descobrir novos Fames era como entrar numa loja de doces e ficar a babar, com aqueles fundos, styles, cores...

E sem dúvida que havia muito mais respeito, principalmente pelos que já cá andavam. Então, sempre que queria pintar, procurava spots escondidos. Estava a começar (era wack) e, na altura, havia muito essa noção. Querias treinar para quando desses um bom spot já teres uma peça com alguma qualidade. O mesmo em relação aos trains, o pessoal quando sonhava em ir dar um panel já queria ter alguma prática, para ter uma boa peça a girar. Hoje em dia já não há essa preocupação.

Quais são as tuas crews?

Só tenho uma e é a mesma há 20 anos, PLM CREW.

O que puxa por ti hoje em dia? Wall of fame, street bombing ou train bombing?

Apesar de não pintar trains há bué, o sentimento é o mesmo em relação a Fame, Bombing ou Trains, não te consigo dizer o que me dá mais prazer. Sou apaixonado por Graffiti e, para mim, Graffiti é tudo isso!

Preferes lettering ou characters?

Também não consigo escolher um, depende um pouco como acordo. Há dias em que estou mesmo focado em pintar um character e há outros em que acordo completamente motivado para ir pintar um lettering e às vezes os dois.

Qual é a tua peça preferida?

Normalmente é sempre a última que pintei, porque noto que há evolução e fico feliz por isso.

Quais são os teus spots / cidades preferidos?

Pintar na zona é sempre mais confortável, mas curto bué explorar spots abandonados, seja em que cidade for, e adoro spots mais fora do ambiente urbano.

Quais são os ingredientes para um bom dia de pinturas?

Um bom dia de sol, sem vento, rap nos ouvidos e a companhia dos brothers.

Pintas com sketch ou freestyle?

Se for pintar fame levo sketch, mas noites de bombing é freestyle.

Qual é o melhor parceiro de pinturas?

Qualquer membro da minha crew, simplesmente pelo facto de pintarmos juntos há tantos anos que às vezes não é preciso falar para desenvolvermos a ideia.

O que toca na tua playlist quando pintas?

Rap tuga. Principalmente Sam the Kid, Regula e Valete, entre muitos outros.

Como descreves o panorama atual do graffiti em Portugal? O que pode melhorar?

Na minha opinião, há writers mesmo com muito talento, mas também há menos união no movimento. Os egos estão lá em cima e o pessoal hoje em dia só quer fazer, fazer, fazer e daí haver muita quantidade e pouca qualidade.

É verdade que as novas tecnologias vieram ajudar em muita coisa mas também vieram matar a criatividade às novas gerações. Hoje em dia tens acesso a tudo sem sair de casa e os putos passam horas no scroll a ver Graff e quando vão pintar saem automaticamente letras iguais às que andaram a ver. E parece que isso agora é normal, a partir do momento que já tens livros de letras de Graffiti para os putos pintarem estás a matar a essência, acho que tens mesmo de passar pelo processo criativo para tentares desenvolver o teu próprio style e acho que é isso que está a faltar.

Para melhorar acho que é preciso união, fazer mais pela Cultura (como tu tens andado a fazer) e mostrar às pessoas o que é o Graffiti e a sua história, porque o termo “Street Art” que é muito usado nos dias de hoje veio misturar um pouco as coisas e parece que nós vamos ser sempre vândalos e eles agora são artistas. Acredita que não é uma questão de “nós” e “eles” porque, sinceramente, há espaço para todos, mas para isso tem de haver respeito. O que me revolta é já ter visto esse pessoal do pincel (nada contra o pincel porque também os uso nas telas lol) a criticar o Graffiti quando deviam era estar calados, porque se eles hoje em dia pintam na rua podem agradecer aos Writers. No fundo, é preciso mais União e Respeito.

Qual é o teu top 3 de writers portugueses?

Impossível conseguir responder a isso, bro, ia ser injusto. O meu top deve ter mais de dez.

Com que writer gostarias de fazer uma peça conjunta?

Com o Odeith.

Qual é aquela peça que te falta fazer (pela complexidade, tamanho, local)?

Sem dúvida que gostava de passar pela experiência de pintar uma lateral de um prédio. Iria ser um grande desafio e, no fim, são peças que dão um impacto brutal.

Quais são os teus planos / projetos futuros?

Claro que o plano número um é pintar e tentar evoluir mais, mas também tenho feito algumas peças de estúdio com o objetivo de vir a ter a minha loja online para vender as minhas obras.

Infelizmente o trabalho rouba muito tempo, mas com dedicação tudo se consegue. Quem sabe um dia eu consiga viver da minha arte.

Tens alguma história que queiras partilhar?

Tenho algumas, ya, mas fica para outro dia, lol.

The first piece I saw by Sneb live is, for me, one of the best representations of the 4 elements of Hip Hop.

This writer from the Oeiras area is part of the Polichromatics Monters (PLM) and is a graffiti monster.

Painting for over 20 years, his taste lies in lettering and characters.

Here's his interview.

What does your tag mean?

It has no meaning, it came about in search of the letters that I liked to draw the most.

When did your interest in graffiti begin and what were your influences at the time?

My interest in Graffiti began in 99, when I came to live in Oeiras. The entrance to my street had a mythical piece of the great Exas that awakened something inside me. I still didn't really understand what Graffiti was but I was lucky enough to grow up between Oeiras and Carcavelos, where the Hip Hop movement was very strong at that time, this made my interest grow and I completely fell in love with the Culture and its elements. As a child who always liked drawing, I immediately felt that Graffiti was the way to go. My influences were many, the great EXAS, all the members of PRM, crews like LGN, GVS, TSK, 3M, REK, DS, R1, DBK, FYA and CPK and also MACLAIM, GÉMEOS, LOOMIT and DAIM, among many others .

What was the graffiti scene like when you started?

“A beautiful era when no one laughed at length”

It was brutal, bro, it was a more underground movement. You were seen as a vandal, whether you did Fame or Bombing, and at that time the elements were all interconnected, where there was Graff there was Rap, where there were DJs there was Breakdance. So, you were really proud to be a Writer, you felt like you were part of something, that you were making your contribution to Culture and that seems to have been lost, unfortunately.

I feel lucky because I think my generation was one of the last to have grown up in an era where you had to walk down the street to see Graffiti, go to street wear stores to see Graff magazines, take the train from Lisbon to Cascais just to see new pieces in the line. Discovering new Fames was like walking into a candy store and drooling, with those backgrounds, styles, colors...

And without a doubt there was much more respect, especially for those who were already here. So, whenever I wanted to paint, I looked for hidden spots. It was just starting (it was wack) and, at the time, there was a lot of that notion. You wanted to train so that when you had a good spot you would already have a piece with some quality. The same with trains, when people dreamed of going to a panel, they already wanted to have some practice, to have a good piece to spin. Nowadays there is no longer that worry.

What are your crews?

I only have one and it's been the same for 20 years, PLM CREW.

What drives you these days? Wall of fame, street bombing or train bombing?

Even though I haven't painted trains in a long time, the feeling is the same regarding Fame, Bombing or Trains, I can't tell you which gives me more pleasure. I'm passionate about Graffiti and, for me, Graffiti is all of that!

Do you prefer lettering or characters?

I can't choose one either, it depends a bit on how I agree. There are days when I'm really focused on painting a character and there are others when I wake up completely motivated to go paint a lettering and sometimes both.

What is your favorite piece?

Normally it's always the last one I painted, because I notice that there is progress and I'm happy about that.

What are your favorite spots/cities?

Painting in the area is always more comfortable, but I really enjoy exploring abandoned spots, whatever the city, and I love spots outside the urban environment.

What are the ingredients for a good painting day? A good sunny day, without wind, rap in your ears and the company of the brothers. Do you paint with sketch or freestyle? If I'm going to paint fame, I'll take a sketch, but bombing nights are freestyle. Who is the best painting partner? Any member of my crew, simply because we've been painting together for so many years that sometimes it's not necessary to talk to develop the idea. What plays on your playlist when you paint? Rap tuga. Mainly Sam the Kid, Regula and Valete, among many others.

How would you describe the current graffiti scene in Portugal? What can improve?

In my opinion, there are really talented writers, but there is also less unity in the movement. Egos are up there and people nowadays just want to do, do, do and so there is a lot of quantity and little quality.

It is true that new technologies have helped with a lot of things, but they have also killed the creativity of new generations. Nowadays you have access to everything without leaving home and kids spend hours on scroll watching Graff and when they paint, letters automatically come out like the ones they were looking at. And it seems that this is now normal, from the moment you already have books of Graffiti letters for kids to paint you are killing the essence, I think you really have to go through the creative process to try to develop your own style and I think it's that's what's missing.

To improve, I think it is necessary to unite, do more for Culture (as you have been doing) and show people what Graffiti is and its history, because the term “Street Art” which is widely used nowadays came from Mix things up a bit and it seems like we'll always be vandals and they're now artists. Believe that it is not a question of “us” and “them” because, honestly, there is room for everyone, but for that there must be respect. What bothers me is having seen these brush people (nothing against brushes because I also use them on canvas lol) criticizing Graffiti when they should have been silent, because if they paint on the street nowadays they can thank the Writers. Basically, more Union and Respect is needed.

What is your top 3 Portuguese writers?

It's impossible to answer that, bro, it would be unfair. My top must have more than ten.

Which writer would you like to do a joint piece with?

With Odeith.

What is that piece that you still need to do (due to its complexity, size, location)? Without a doubt, I enjoyed the experience of painting the side of a building. It would be a great challenge and, in the end, these are pieces that have a brutal impact. What are your future plans/projects? Of course, the number one plan is to paint and try to evolve further, but I have also made some studio pieces with the aim of having my online store to sell my works. Unfortunately, work takes up a lot of time, but with dedication anything can be achieved. Who knows, maybe one day I will be able to make a living from my art. Do you have a story you want to share?
