É entre a grande Lisboa e a Costa Vicentina (de onde é natural) que GOBS tem vindo a espalhar as suas peças.
O gosto pelo graffiti já é antigo, mas foi durante a Universidade que se consolidou a sua paixão pelo lettering e a caligrafia.
O writer tem tido uma presença assídua nas jams de Magus e no Festival das Cores (em Vila Nova de Santo André).
Qual o significado do teu tag?
GOBS é o meu segundo tag, quando comecei tagava GUIA. Entretanto, conforme fui praticando, curti do flow das letras O B S e mantive o G.
Tens formação em arte?
Sim, no liceu fiz o curso de Artes Visuais e na faculdade fiz a licenciatura em Design de Produto.
Quando começou o teu interesse pelo graffiti e quais foram as tuas influências na altura?
A primeira vez que comecei a reparar em Graff foi por volta dos 12/13 anos. A minha irmã teve uma visita de estudo a Barcelona e trouxe umas fotografias de graffs de lá. Aquilo para mim foi uma cena completamente nova e ela é que me explicou o que aquilo era e o que era um tag.
A partir daí, comecei a reparar no Graff que havia na minha zona, cenas do OBAR, do ALIEN e do ALIVE. Na altura, também ia sempre 2 ou 3 vezes por mês a Lisboa, comecei a reparar nos graffs das chapas e fiquei impressionado com a quantidade de graffs do Sudae.
Com 14 comecei a desenhar as minhas primeiras cenas e a experimentar com um amigo meu. Comprávamos latas na loja do chinês e entrávamos em casas abandonadas para fazermos os nossas peças, mas nada muito sério e sem muita noção do que estávamos a fazer. Entretanto, acabei por conhecer o Saldoce, fui lidando uma beca com ele e ele foi-me explicando algumas cenas. Aprendi algumas bases e, nessa altura, ele é que me falou das lojas de graff, eu nem sabia que haviam em Portugal. Uns anos mais tarde, numa das vezes que ele veio ao Alentejo, deixou-me umas latas e uns caps. Comecei a desenhar as minhas primeiras letras já com algumas noções do que estava a fazer.
Foi em 2015, quando fui estudar para as Caldas da Rainha, que conheci o Real dos 420 (porque éramos da mesma turma) e comecei a ir pintar com ele. A partir daí comecei a pintar a sério, com muito mais regularidade. Aprendi muitas coisas com ele e sem dúvida que ele foi, e é, uma das minhas maiores influências.
Existe uma cena vibrante ao nível do graffiti em Santo André e restante Alentejo litoral?
Sinto que aqui em Santo André existe uma cena um bocado diferente da maior parte dos sítios em Portugal. Penso que é muito por Santo André ser relativamente pequeno e termos uma população reduzida, logo não somos muitos a pintar. Apesar disto, continua a aparecer pessoal novo a pintar e como temos a sorte de termos paredes legais por aqui é sempre mais fácil. Mesmo a nível de spots abandonados, metes-te no carro e tens vários, desde alguns hotéis, linhas desativadas, armazéns e bué casinhas abandonadas.

O que puxa por ti? Wall of fame, street bombing ou train bombing?
Neste momento, o que me puxa mais é o fame. Sinto que aprendo muito mais quando pinto um fame e tenho a preocupação de fazer uma peça mais completa, onde perco mais tempo a tentar que tudo bata certo. No final, acho que consigo evoluir muito mais assim e me aproximo mais do estilo a que quero chegar.
Em relação aos bombs também acho que me ajudou muito perder mais tempo na parede, mas aprender a trabalhar melhor com a lata.
Com os ATB voltei a bombar com mais consistência e continua a ser uma cena que me move, também porque não há nada como a adrenalina que um gajo sente quando estamos bombar.
Como classificas o teu estilo?
Para mim, não acho que tenha um estilo muito definido. Obviamente que repito muitas vezes as estruturas de letras, mas tento fazer peças diversificadas. A única coisa que têm em comum entre elas é que a estrutura das minhas peças parte de tags simples e construo as letras à volta do flow do tag.

Lettering.
Quais são os ingredientes para um bom dia de pinturas?
Bom tempo, malta tranquila e muita tinta!
Quais são os teus spots / cidades preferidos?
A minha zona, porque aqui tenho a sorte de ter paredes autorizadas e ainda temos bastantes sítios onde conseguimos pintar tranquilo.
Curto muito das Caldas, porque estive lá alguns anos e quando fui para lá conheci muita gente e pessoal que, para mim, já faziam peças muito boas (Monk, Real, Polen e Kosh, entre outros). Os graffs da malta que estudou ou passou por lá eram graffs muito bons em termos de qualidade, cenas só tinha apanhado na net.
No ano de 2023 também comecei a ser convidado para ir pintar à Póvoa de Santa Iria, pelo Magus. Também curto muito daquela zona e sempre que lá vou têm sido dos melhores dias de pintura que tenho tido.
Pintas com sketch ou freestyle?
Freestyle. Apesar de desenhar muito, é muito raro guiar-me por um sketch que tenha feito.
O que toca na tua playlist quando pintas?
RAP.
Como descreves o panorama atual do graffiti em Portugal?
Acho que comparado com quando comecei há mais gente a pintar e, apesar de vivermos na cultura do Instagram, em Portugal apanhas malta a pintar muito bem, a trazerem novos estilos e novos efeitos, seja em bombs ou fames.
Qual é o teu top 3 de writers portugueses?
REAL, SEN e GEKS.
E de writers estrangeiros?
SOFLES, POUT e ASMOE.
Com que writer gostarias de fazer uma peça conjunta?
Tenho muitos, tanto a nível de Portugal como de fora, mas com o SOFLES, sem dúvida.
Qual é aquela peça que te falta fazer (pela complexidade, tamanho, local, …)?
Ainda tenho muita coisa que quero fazer, mas gostava muito de ir a uma jam internacional.
Tens alguma história que queiras partilhar?
A primeira vez que fui fazer um train com o pessoal dos ATB. Não tínhamos plano nenhum, decidimos só que íamos à procura de algum spot onde conseguíssemos mandar um train. Acabámos por ir às Praias do Sado, fomos ter ao yard da Medway, nunca nenhum de nós tinha ido lá.
Demos a volta ao spot para ver se valia a pena pintar e tentar perceber por onde entrávamos. Acabámos por ver duas locomotivas que não estavam pintadas, descobrimos um spot para entrar e fomos lá para dentro.
Eu e o Blak conseguimos acabar as nossas peças mas dois dos nossos tropas ainda estavam a acabar. Entretanto, filmei a minha peça e, quando ia para tirar a foto, apareceu do nada um trabalhador da Medway, mesmo ao lado dos dois que estavam a acabar. Perguntou “Então querem ajuda?”. Nós começámos os 4 a correr pela linha, o cota ainda veio a correr atrás de nós mas acabou por desistir. Foi muito bom, já não tinha aquela sensação de adrenalina e de ter de começar a sprintar para fugir há algum tempo. Acabámos por sair bué mais à frente na linha e tivemos de apanhar um Uber para voltarmos para o carro.
Quais são os teus planos / projetos futuros?
Quero continuar a pintar, tentar ter mais regularidade. Quero melhorar e definir o meu estilo, para conseguir mandar um graff cada vez mais completo. E quero tentar conseguir realizar alguns murais que já ando a projetar há algum tempo.
E espero que este ano consiga andar por diferentes sítios de Portugal e pintar com mais writers.

It is between Greater Lisbon and Costa Vicentina (where he is from) that GOBS has been spreading his pieces.
His taste for graffiti is old, but it was during University that his passion for lettering and calligraphy was consolidated.
The writer has been a regular presence at Magus jams and at the Festival das Cores (in Vila Nova de Santo André).
What does your tag mean? GOBS is my second tag, when I started I was tagging GUIA. However, as I practiced, I enjoyed the flow of the letters O B S and kept the G. Do you have training in art? Yes, in high school I took the Visual Arts course and in college I took a degree in Product Design. When did your interest in graffiti begin and what were your influences at the time?
The first time I started to notice Graff was around 12/13 years old. My sister had a study visit to Barcelona and brought some photos of graffiti artists there. That was a completely new scene for me and she was the one who explained to me what that was and what a tag was.
From then on, I started to notice the Graff that was in my area, scenes from OBAR, ALIEN and ALIVE. At the time, I also always went to Lisbon 2 or 3 times a month, I started to notice the graffiti on the plates and I was impressed by the number of graffiti on Sudae.
At 14 I started drawing my first scenes and experimenting with a friend of mine. We bought cans at the Chinese store and went into abandoned houses to make our first pieces, but nothing very serious and without much idea of what we were doing. However, I ended up meeting Saldoce, I got to know him a lot and he explained some scenes to me. I learned some basics and, at that time, he was the one who told me about graffiti stores, I didn't even know they existed in Portugal. A few years later, one of the times he came to Alentejo, he left me some cans and caps. I started drawing my first letters with some notions of what I was doing.
It was in 2015, when I went to study in Caldas da Rainha, that I met Real dos 420 (because we were in the same class) and started to paint with him. From then on I started painting seriously, much more regularly. I learned many things from him and without a doubt he was, and is, one of my biggest influences.
Is there a vibrant graffiti scene in Santo André and the rest of coastal Alentejo?
I feel that here in Santo André there is a scene that is a little different from most places in Portugal. I think it's mostly because Santo André is relatively small and we have a small population, so there aren't many of us painting. Despite this, new people continue to appear and paint and as we are lucky enough to have nice walls around here it is always easier. Even in terms of abandoned spots, get in the car and there are several, from some hotels, deactivated lines, warehouses and lots of abandoned houses.
Do you belong to a crew?

What pulls you? Wall of fame, street bombing or train bombing?
Right now, what pulls me the most is fame. I feel like I learn a lot more when I paint a fame and I'm worried about making a more complete piece, where I spend more time trying to get everything to fit right. In the end, I think I can evolve much more this way and get closer to the style I want to achieve.
Regarding the bombs, I also think it helped me a lot to spend more time on the wall, but learn to work better with the can. With ATB I started bombing again with more consistency and it continues to be a scene that moves me, also because there is nothing like the adrenaline that a guy feels when we are bombing.
How do you classify your style?
For me, I don't think I have a very defined style. Obviously I repeat the lyric structures often, but I try to make diverse pieces. The only thing they have in common is that the structure of my pieces starts from simple tags and I build the lyrics around the flow of the tag.
Do you prefer lettering or characters?
Lettering.
What are the ingredients for a good painting day?
Good weather, calm people and lots of paint!
What are your favorite spots/cities?
My area, because here I'm lucky to have authorized walls and we still have plenty of places where we can paint in peace.
I really like Caldas, because I was there for a few years and when I went there I met a lot of people who, for me, were already making very good plays (Monk, Real, Polen and Kosh, among others). The guys who studied or spent time there were very good guys in terms of quality, scenes I had only found on the internet.
In the year 2023 I also started to be invited to paint in Póvoa de Santa Iria, by Magus. I also really like that area and every time I go there it's been one of the best painting days I've had.
Do you paint with sketch or freestyle?
Freestyle. Even though I draw a lot, it's very rare that I'm guided by a sketch I've made.
What plays on your playlist when you paint?
RAP.
How would you describe the current graffiti scene in Portugal? I think that compared to when I started there are more people painting and, despite living in the Instagram culture, in Portugal you can find people painting very well, bringing new styles and new effects, whether in bombs or fames. What is your top 3 Portuguese writers? REAL, SEN and GEKS. And foreign writers? SOFLES, POUT and ASMOE.
Which writer would you like to do a joint piece with?
I have many, both in Portugal and abroad, but with SOFLES, without a doubt.
What is that piece that you still need to do (due to its complexity, size, location, …)? I still have a lot of things I want to do, but I would really like to go to an international jam. Do you have a story you want to share? The first time I went on a train with the ATB people. We didn't have any plans, we just decided that we were going to look for a spot where we could send a train. We ended up going to Praias do Sado, we went to the Medway yard, none of us had ever been there. We went around the spot to see if it was worth painting and try to understand where we were going. We ended up seeing two locomotives that weren't painted, we found a spot to enter and went inside. Blak and I managed to finish our pieces but two of our troops were still finishing. Meanwhile, I filmed my piece and, as I was about to take the photo, a Medway worker appeared out of nowhere, right next to the two who were finishing. He asked “So do you want help?” The four of us started running along the line, the guy still came running after us but ended up giving up. It was really good, I hadn't had that feeling of adrenaline and having to start sprinting to get away for a while now. We ended up getting further ahead in the line and had to take an Uber to get back to the car. What are your future plans/projects? I want to continue painting, try to have more regularity. I want to improve and define my style, so I can send an increasingly complete graph. And I want to try to create some murals that I've been designing for some time. And I hope that this year I can travel to different places in Portugal and paint with more writers. Props?
