Quando a Coca-Cola quis entrar oficialmente em Portugal, quase há 100 anos atrás, foi pedido a Fernando Pessoa que criasse um slogan para a mesma. “Primeiro estranha-se. Depois, entranha-se.” sintetizava, na perfeição, a experiência que esta bebida, inventada sob a fórmula de xarope estimulante, numa farmácia em Atlanta, podia proporcionar. O mesmo se passa com as obras de Stephan.
Ao explorar locais abandonados para os lados de Sintra, a sua zona de eleição, fui descobrindo as suas peças marcadas por milhares de pontos. Depois da estranheza inicial, depressa comecei a apreciá-las, tanto pelos locais escolhidos para o seu enquadramento como pela destreza deste artista em transformar animais, veículos, personagens de séries de animação, paisagens ou figuras históricas em composições invulgares elaboradas no seu estilo próprio.
Ele é artista, writer (num registo totalmente diferente) e empreendedor (está ligado à equipa de Umratoperdido, uma marca de vestuário inspirada na cultura do hip-hop e graffiti). Para o conhecer um pouco melhor, aqui ficam as suas respostas.

Qual o significado do teu tag?
Não tem significado, é apenas o meu nome.
Tens formação em arte?
Sim, estive em várias escolas de arte. Mas onde aprendi mais foi na rua.
Quando começou o teu interesse pelo graffiti / street art e quais foram as tuas influências na altura?
Sempre estive ligado ao movimento hip-hop e, na altura, tinha amigos que andavam de skate e alguns já pintavam.
Como era a cena no graffiti / street art quando começaste?
Eu comecei em 2018 a trabalhar mais nisto e tenho de agradecer ao Rote e ao Odeith, que me deram muita força para não desistir. Apesar de, neste momento, estarmos um pouco ausentes, são pessoas que me deram muito apoio e acreditaram naquilo que sou hoje. Obrigado, manos!

Quais são os teus spots / cidades preferidos?
Eu adoro sítios abandonados e com difíceis acessos, o mais escondidos possível.
Wall of fame, Street bombing ou Train bombing?
O que faço não se enquadra em nenhuma dessas opções. O que faço é arte. Gosto de desenvolver o meu próprio estilo. Futuramente, vejo os meus trabalhos dos sítios abandonados em galerias de arte. Fora da rua.
Mas eu respeito muito quem faz bombing. Muitos deles arriscam a vida por cordas, etc. Ali não há regras. Eles têm amor, gosto e necessidade.
E acho que train bombing, pela história do graffiti, devia ser mais pesquisada, que temos writers muito bons.
Como surgiu a tua técnica? Onde vais buscar as tuas inspirações?
A técnica dos pontos surgiu naturalmente. Sempre gostei de arriscar novas experiências e tentar criar novos estilos. Acho que é isso que define os próprios artistas.
Eu tenho influência de artistas como Odeith, Nark ou Vile, que lutam para vir com ideias novas e trazer alguma originalidade. Sempre fui muito próximo deles e sempre me orgulhei do nível a que chegaram.
A minha inspiração vem de mim e daquilo que já fiz anteriormente. Por vezes, vejo arquivos antigos e tento inspirar-me o máximo possível.

Sketch.
Qual é a tua lata preferida?
Mtn black.
Qual é o teu top 3 de writers portugueses?

Grupo.

Odeith, Rote, Vile e o Kurtz.
O que toca na tua playlist quando pintas?
Adoro hip-hop. Gosto dos GROGNation, Bispo e tudo o que venha com uma boa vibe.
Como descreves o panorama atual do graffiti / street art em Portugal?
Acho que está num bom nível. Somos um país pequeno e temos artistas conhecidos mundialmente.
Qual é o teu melhor trabalho?
O meu trabalho favorito é, provavelmente, a Branca de Neve e os Sete Anões. Sem desvalorizar os outros trabalhos, mas foi um lugar que me deu boas energias.
Quais são os teus planos / projetos futuros?
De momento, estou a trabalhar numa marca nacional de roupa ligada ao graffiti, street art e hip-hop.
Devido à situação da Covid 19, não tenho muitos planos ligados à arte. Só quero que isto passe rápido e que os meus fiquem bem.
Tens alguma história que queiras partilhar?
A única história que tive foi estar num local abandonado, chegar a PSP, eu pensar que ia ter problemas e o senhor agente ser fã do meu trabalho, não me ter acontecido nada e ter terminado o trabalho com sucesso.

When Coca-Cola wanted to officially enter Portugal, almost 100 years ago, Fernando Pessoa was asked to create a slogan for it. “First, it is strange. Then, get in. ” perfectly synthesized the experience that this drink, invented under the formula of stimulating syrup, in a pharmacy in Atlanta, could provide. The same is true of Stephan's works. When exploring abandoned places on the sides of Sintra, his favorite area, I discovered his pieces marked by thousands of points. After the initial strangeness, I quickly started to appreciate them, both for the places chosen for their framing and for the artist's skill in transforming animals, vehicles, characters from animated series, landscapes or historical figures into unusual compositions elaborated in his own style. He is an artist, writer (in a totally different register) and entrepreneur (he is linked to the team of Umratoperdido, a clothing brand inspired by the culture of hip-hop and graffiti). To get to know him a little better, here are his answers.
What is the meaning of your tag? It has no meaning, it's just my name. Do you have art training? Yes, I went to several art schools. But where I learned most was on the street. When did your interest in graffiti / street art start and what were your influences at the time? I was always connected to the hip-hop movement and, at the time, I had friends who skated and some of them were already painting. What was the graffiti / street art scene like when you started? I start in 2018 to work more on this and I have to thank Rote and Odeith, who gave me a lot of strength to not give up. Although, at this moment, we are a little absent, they gave me a lot of support and believed in what I am today. Thanks, brothers!
What are your crews? Umratoperdido team.
What are your favorite spots / cities? I love abandoned places with difficult access, as hidden as possible. Wall of fame, Street bombing or Train bombing? What I do does not fit into any of these options. What I do is art. I like to develop my own style. In the future, I see my work from abandoned sites in art galleries. Off the street. But I really respect those who do bombing. Many of them risk their lives with ropes, etc. There are no rules there. They have love, taste and need.
And I think that train bombing, for the history of graffiti, should be more researched, that we have very good writers. How did your technique come about? Where do you go to get your inspirations? The dot technique came naturally. I always liked to risk new experiences and try to create new styles. I think that is what defines the artists themselves.
I am influenced by artists like Odeith, Nark or Vile, who struggle to come up with new ideas and bring some originality. I was always very close to them and I was always proud of the level they reached. My inspiration comes from me and what I've done before. Sometimes I see old files and try to get as much inspiration as possible.

What is your top 3 of Portuguese writers? Odeith Vile Ram And foreign writers? Os Gêmeos Ceser Maye Do you prefer to paint alone or in a group? Group. Who do you like to paint with? Odeith, Rote, Vile and Kurtz. What do you play in your playlist when you paint? I love hip-hop. I like GROGNation, Bispo and everything that comes with a good vibe.
How do you describe the current landscape of graffiti / street art in Portugal? I think it's at a good level. We are a small country and we have artists known worldwide. What is your best job? My favorite piece is probably Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Without devaluing the other works, but it was a place that gave me good energy.
What are your future plans / projects? At the moment, I am working on a national clothing brand linked to graffiti, street art and hip-hop. Due to the situation of Covid 19, I don't have many plans related to art. I just want this to go quickly and mine to be okay.
Do you have a story you want to share? The only story I had was being in an abandoned place, arriving the PSP, thinking that I was going to have problems and the police was a fan of my work, nothing happened to me and I finished the job successfully.
