A primeira peça que conheci de Raps foi um desenho de um rato, um dos meus temas preferidos ao nível da Street Art.
Numa troca de mensagens no Instagram, surgiu um convite para que fosse visitar os trabalhos que estava a desenvolver no Hotel da Tercena.
Com um percurso ligado ao Graffiti que já conta com 24 anos, foi com imensa humildade que aceitou participar num projeto que ainda estava em esboço.

Qual o significado do teu tag?
O RAPS surgiu da alcunha Raposo dos tempos de juventude. É também relacionado com uma das vertentes do Hip Hop (o Rap), o qual também comecei a ouvir com mais frequência. E por último, são as iniciais do meu nome (RS).
Quando começou o teu interesse pelo graffiti e quais foram as tuas influências na altura?
O meu interesse começou sensivelmente em 1994/95, com os murais magníficos de UBER, EXAS, SEA, WIZE, YOUTH, CAB, STUCK, EITH, COLMAN, etc.
Como era a cena no graffiti quando começaste?
Quando comecei em 1996, sinto que era mais puro, no sentido em que hoje se corre atrás de modas e do buzz! Comparando com a diversidade de hoje em dia e a facilidade com que colocas uma imagem disponível para milhares de pessoas, o facto de não existir uma plataforma digital fazia-te correr atrás dos spots e massificar a tua cena.
Sinto que existia mais respeito e dedicação em querer evoluir.
Quais são as tuas crews?
Quando comecei, foi com OVK. Hoje em dia, represento 4A e AC.
4A – ArrAbAçA (Amizade, Alegria, Acção e Abertura) É algo que foi criado com um grupo de amigos e que tenho mantido, pelos valores que representa e que quero manter.
Quais são os teus spots / cidades preferidos?
Neste momento, são aqueles em que possa pintar sem problema! Pois a minha situação profissional não permite mesmo. Mas posso sempre referir o mural das Amoreiras e o Hotel em Tercena, ao qual tenho dedicado algumas horas nos últimos anos.
Wall of fame, Street bombing ou Train bombing?
Wall of fame – hoje em dia.
Street bombing – quando comecei e ainda tenho vontade, pois é a essência do Graffiti.
Train bombing – Apenas pintei 1 e tenho muito respeito, por todo o risco que envolve.
Pintas com sketch ou freestyle?
Em relação às letras, gosto de fazer o meu esboço e levar uma ideia já definida. Um bom desenho de base facilita o processo inicial, ou seja, o traçar das linhas! Tudo o resto (preenchimentos, efeitos, sombras, etc…) é freestyle, na maioria das vezes.
Qual é a tua lata preferida?
Sem dúvida, a Montana Black! Qualidade de tinta, durabilidade e o cap que traz!!
Qual é o teu top 3 de writers portugueses?
É difícil responder, mas não posso deixar de referir ODEITH!
E de writers estrangeiros?
Tenho visto muita coisa do Sofles e Askew!
Com quem gostas de pintar?
Claro que com CAB e MITO, ou não seria uma crew! Mas não posso esquecer o AYER, FYRE, ODEITH, HERN e STAY (da nova geração e com quem tenho feito algumas produções nos últimos anos). Nunca mais pintámos juntos e já lá vão uns aninhos, mas o KAYO do Porto é um writer impecável!
Como descreves o panorama atual do graffiti em Portugal?
O Graffiti ou a Street Art? Porque Graffiti há muito pouco! Graffiti, na minha opinião, é diferente de Street Art ou pintura decorativa! E Graff não há muito!
Volto a mencionar a malta dos comboios, Big-Up and respect!
Qual é o teu melhor trabalho?
O trabalho de pintura que mais gostei de fazer até hoje, talvez seja o mural decorativo que fiz em Queijas. Por ser o local onde cresci e por ter realizado um objetivo.
Relacionado com Graffiti, foi a produção e realização do DVD Referência Vol1 – LX vision city tour in colour (de 2003), em conjunto com Bobby Hazard Gibson.
Tens alguma história que queiras partilhar?
Eram 3h00 da manhã e ouvimos ”… parem já com o que estão a fazer!”. Quando olhámos para trás, estavam 2 agentes, na linha de comboio, devidamente armados! Tínhamos feito 3 traços na parede.

The first piece I saw by Raps was a drawing of a mouse, one of my favorite themes in terms of Street Art. In an exchange of messages on Instagram, an invitation came up for him to visit the work he was developing at the Hotel da Tercena. With a career linked to Graffiti that already has 24 years, it was with immense humility that he accepted to participate in a project that was still in sketch. Thanks for the vote of confidence.
What does your tag mean?
RAPS emerged from the nickname Raposo from the youth. It's also related to one of the aspects of Hip Hop (Rap), which I also started listening to more often. And finally, they are the initials of my name (RS).
When did your interest in graffiti start and what were your influences at the time?
My interest started roughly in 1994/95, with the magnificent murals by UBER, EXAS, SEA, WIZE, YOUTH, CAB, STUCK, EITH, COLMAN, etc.
What was the graffiti scene like when you started?
When I started in 1996, I feel it was purer, in the sense that today people run after fashions and buzz! Comparing with the diversity of today and the ease with which you can make an image available to thousands of people, the fact that there was no digital platform made you run after spots and massify your scene.
I feel that there was more respect and dedication in wanting to evolve.
What are your crews?
When I started, it was with OVK. Nowadays, I represent 4A and AC.
4A – ArrabAçA (Friendship, Joy, Action and Openness) It is something that was created with a group of friends and that I have kept, because of the values it represents and that I want to keep.
What are your favorite spots / cities?
At the moment, they are the ones you can paint on without a problem! Because my professional situation does not allow it. But I can always mention the Amoreiras mural and the Hotel in Tercena, to which I have devoted a few hours in recent years.
Wall of fame, Street bombing or Train bombing?
Wall of fame – nowadays.
Street bombing – when I started and I still want it, because it's the essence of Graffiti. Train bombing – I only painted 1 and I have a lot of respect for all the risk involved.
Do you paint with sketch or freestyle?
Regarding the letters, I like to make my sketch and bring an already defined idea. A good base design facilitates the initial process, that is, drawing the lines! Everything else (fills, effects, shadows, etc…) is mostly freestyled.
What's your favorite can?
Without a doubt, the Montana Black! Ink quality, durability and the cap it brings!!
What is your top 3 of Portuguese writers?
It's hard to answer, but I can't help but mention ODEITH!
What about foreign writers?
I've seen a lot of Sofles and Askew stuff!
Who do you like to paint with?
Of course with CAB and MITO, or it wouldn't be a crew! But I can't forget AYER, FYRE, ODEITH, HERN and STAY (from the new generation and with whom I've been doing some productions in recent years). We never painted together again and it's been a few years, but KAYO from Porto is an impeccable writer!
How would you describe the current scenario of graffiti in Portugal?
Graffiti or Street Art? Because Graffiti there is very little! Graffiti, in my opinion, is different from Street Art or decorative painting! And Graff there is not much!
I mention the train crew again, Big-Up and respect!
What's your best piece?
The painting work I most enjoyed doing so far is perhaps the decorative mural I did in Queijas. For being the place where I grew up and for having accomplished a goal.
Related to Graffiti, it was the production and direction of the DVD Referência Vol1 – LX vision city tour in color (from 2003), together with Bobby Hazard Gibson.
Do you have a story you want to share?
It was 3:00 in the morning and we heard "... stop what you're doing now!". When we looked back, there were 2 agents, on the train line, properly armed! We had made 3 lines on the wall.
