Na Margem Sul, são já várias as obras que fotografei do meu novo entrevistado. Barreiro, Almada ou Seixal são locais de visita habituais de Ayer, tanto em jams como em festivais de graffiti.
Quando comecei a alargar o raio das minhas explorações fotográficas, encontrei mais algumas das suas peças por Lisboa, destacando-se a que ainda se mantém na Wall of Fame das Amoreiras.
Mas foi no Cacém que encontrei um verdadeiro tesouro, num armazém abandonado (hoje em fase de demolição) no qual entrei à Indiana Jones. Ali descobri Ayer, Patel Rebelo, AC, Odeith, Dali e Stay, entre outros.
Passado tanto tempo, ainda não tive oportunidade de me cruzar com o writer, tendo sido o Raps que deu a dica para esta entrevista. Props para os dois!
Qual o significado do teu tag?
O meu tag começou por ser Sayer, soothsayer significa profeta em inglês. Fartei-me do "S" e acabou por ficar só Ayer.
Tens formaço em artes?
Tirei um curso de design gráfico.
Quando começou o teu interesse pelo Graffiti e quais foram as tuas influências na altura?
O meu interesse pelo Graffiti começou na década de 90, quando vi um pela 1ª vez e nem sabia o que era. Lembro-me de ter olhado para o graff e ter pensado para mim "não sei o que isto é, mas também quero fazer!"
As minhas influências, na altura, foram os PRM, os THC, os NCW, e, também, o UBER.
Como era a cena do Graffiti quando começaste?
A cena, quando comecei, não era fácil. O material era caro e havia menos sítios onde comprar.
Era uma cultura muito mais fechada do que é hoje em dia, o que considero que tinha os seus prós e os seus contras.
Se querias ver graff, tinhas de ir à procura ou ser alguém a dizer-te que havia uma peça em tal spot e ires ao local ver. Não é como hoje que temos muita coisa disponível na net.

Quais são os teus spots/cidades preferidas?
Benfica e Almada.
Hall of Fame, Street Bombing ou Train Bombing?
Hall of Fame, sem dúvida. Nada como passar um dia bem passado com pessoal amigo a pintar.
Como é o teu processo criativo, e onde vais buscar as tuas inspirações?
O meu processo criativo é espontâneo, estou sempre a "rabiscar". A minha inspiração tem origem em tudo o que me rodeia.
Pintas com sketch ou freestyle?
Gosto tanto de um como de outro. Mas sou suspeito, muitas vezes uso o sketch como referência e o resto é freestyle.
Qual é a tua lata preferida?
Coca-cola, LOL! Montana Black e Montana Gold.
Qual o teu top 3 de writers portugueses?
E writers estrangeiros?
Tones, Mode2 e Pose.
Preferes pintar sozinho ou em grupo?
Gosto muito de pintar em grupo, mas também gosto muito de pintar sozinho.
Com quem gostas de pintar?
Com pessoal amigo e pessoal porreiro.
O que toca na tua playlist quando pintas?
Depende muito do meu estado de espírito, mas toca, principalmente, rap, metal core e dubstep.
Como descreves o panorama atual do graffiti em Portugal?
Acho que temos muito bons writers a fazer muita coisa boa. Também vejo muita coisa bem pintada, mas que, na minha opinião, não é graffiti. Existe uma linha muito ténue que separa o graffiti da street art.
Qual é o teu melhor trabalho?
Tenho uns melhores que outros, gosto bastante de alguns, mas não tenho nenhum que possa considerar o meu melhor. Quero acreditar que, provavelmente, ainda não o fiz.
Quais são os teus planos/projetos futuros?
Plano: continuar a pintar.
Projetos: Não tenho projetos definidos, porque, normalmente, quando estou a "projetar" já estou a fazer.

In South Bank, there are already several works that I photographed by my new interviewee. Barreiro, Almada or Seixal are the usual places for Ayer to visit, both at jams and at graffiti festivals. When I started to expand the range of my photographic explorations, I found some more of his pieces in Lisbon, highlighting the one that still remains in the Wall of Fame das Amoreiras. But it was in Cacém that I found a real treasure, in an abandoned warehouse (today in the phase of demolition) in which I entered Indiana Jones. There I discovered Ayer, Patel Rebelo, AC, Odeith, Dali and Stay, among others. After so much time, I still haven't had the opportunity to meet the writer, and it was Raps who gave the tip for this interview. Props for both!
What is the meaning of your tag?
My tag started out as Sayer, soothsayer means prophet in English. I got tired of the "S" and ended up being just Ayer.
Do you have arts training?
I took a graphic design course.
When did your interest in Graffiti start and what were your influences at the time?
My interest in Graffiti started in the 90's, when I saw one for the first time and I didn't even know what it was. I remember looking at the graff and thinking to myself "I don't know what this is, but I also want to do it!"
My influences at the time were PRM, THC, NCW, and also UBER.
What was the Graffiti scene like when you started?
The scene, when I started, was not easy. The material was expensive and there were fewer places to buy.
It was a much more closed culture than it is today, which I think had its pros and cons. If you wanted to see graff, you had to go looking or someone to tell you that there was a piece in such a spot and go to the place to see it.
It is not like today that we have a lot available on the net.

What are your favorite spots / cities?

How is your creative process, and where do you get your inspiration from? My creative process is spontaneous, I am always "doodling". My inspiration comes from everything around me. Do you paint with sketch or freestyle? I like both one and the other. But I am suspicious, I often use the sketch as a reference and the rest is freestyle. What is your favorite can? Coca-Cola, LOL! Montana Black and Montana Gold.
What is your top 3 of Portuguese writers? Atsok, Chure and Sen. And foreign writers? Tones, Mode2 and Pose. Do you prefer to paint alone or in a group? I really like to paint in a group, but I also like to paint alone. Who do you like to paint with? With friendly and cool people. What do you play in your playlist when you paint? It depends a lot on my mood, but it mainly plays rap, metal core and dubstep.
How do you describe the current scene of Graffiti in Portugal?
I think we have very good writers doing a lot of good. I also see a lot of things well painted, but which, in my opinion, is not graffiti. There is a very fine line that separates graffiti from street art.
What is your best job?
I have some better than others, I really like some, but I have none that I can consider my best. I want to believe that I probably haven't done it yet.
What are your future plans / projects?
Plan: continue to paint.
Projects: I have no defined projects, because normally, when I am "designing" I am already doing it.
