Com formação em Belas Artes, foi em 2015 que Mafalda MG sentiu o apelo da Street Art. Desde aí, muros, caixas de eletricidade ou armazéns abandonados, tudo serve de tela para as suas obras.
A figura feminina tem uma forte expressão nas obras desta fã da arte figurativa.

Fala-nos um pouco de ti e da tua formação em arte.
Cresci a ver a minha avó pintar, o seu maior desgosto foi não ter podido ir para belas artes. Influenciada por ela, estudei na António Arroio, tirei a licenciatura em desenho na fbaul e concluí também o primeiro ano do mestrado em pintura na fbaul.
Para além de artista, és professora. Como reagem os teus alunos a essa outra faceta?
Adoram. A primeira coisa que perguntam, quando me vêem, é o que é que pintei nesse dia.
O que preferes? O estúdio / sala de aula ou a rua?
Rua.
Quando começou o teu interesse pela Street Art e quais foram as tuas influências na altura?
Sempre gostei de ver, mas o meu interesse mais sério começou em 2015, quando voluntariei no Muraliza em Cascais. O contacto directo com os artistas Millo, Samina, Bosoletti, Mauro Carmelino (SEBS), Draw, Belém e Fred Aranha fomentaram em mim uma curiosidade de explorar esta área.
Já marcaste presença em alguns Festivais de Graffiti / Street Art e eventos similares. Qual foi aquele em que tiveste mais gosto em participar?
Foram todos experiências diferentes, não tenho um preferido.
Quais são os teus spots / cidades preferidos?
Em qualquer sítio onde haja um escape com natureza estou bem.
Como é o teu processo criativo e onde vais buscar as tuas inspirações?
Às vezes intuitivo, outras vezes planeado. Gosto de ir a museus e galerias, para além de usar o Instagram para seguir o trabalho de vários tipos de artistas.
Pintas com sketch ou freestyle?
Sempre com foto de referência. Às vezes com sketch da paleta de cores, outras vezes improviso.
Preferes pintar sozinha ou em grupo?
Gosto da tranquilidade de pintar sozinha e sem distrações, mas também gosto de ir pintar acompanhada. Depende do spot.
Com quem gostas de pintar?
Até agora não tive nenhum problema com ninguém com quem tenha ido pintar. Voltaria a repetir a experiência com qualquer um deles.
Sendo mulher, alguma vez foste alvo de machismo no mundo da Street Art?
Já. 🙃
Voltas com frequência à figura feminina. É um dos temas favoritos? Algumas das obras são auto-retratos?
Por acaso, é inconscientemente. :) Gosto de explorar o figurativo e acabo por usar referências que me transmitam alguma coisa.
Tenho alguns auto-retratos em tela e esboços, mas só me uso como modelo quando não consigo encontrar uma referência ou fotografar alguém.
O que toca na tua playlist quando pintas?
Depende se estiver sozinha ou acompanhada. Um bocadinho de tudo, mas o que passa sempre, de certeza, é old school hip-hop.
Como descreves o panorama atual da Street Art e do Graffiti em Portugal?
Acho que tem havido uma mudança de mentalidades e mais abertura, não só para a street art como também para o graffiti.
Qual é o teu top 3 de artistas / writers portugueses?
E de artistas / writers estrangeiros?
Wosk, Cibo, Royyal Dog.
Qual é o teu melhor trabalho?
Não tenho, o meu melhor trabalho é o que ainda não pintei.
Quais são os teus planos / projetos futuros?
Não gosto de revelar muito sobre os meus planos. Tenho muita coisa planeada, mas ainda nada é certo.
Tens alguma história que queiras partilhar?
Alguns encontros com personagens estranhas em spots abandonados, mas a melhor história foi dois agentes da PSP avaliarem a colaboração que fiz com o Esor como "muito boa" e deixarem-me acabar outra parede que já tinha começado sem qualquer tipo de complicação.

With a background in Fine Arts, it was in 2015 that Mafalda MG felt the appeal of Street Art. Since then, walls, electricity boxes or abandoned warehouses, everything serves as a canvas for her works.
The female figure has a strong expression in the works of this fan of figurative art. The artist regularly paints in the company of Tiago Hacke, Miúdo, Stephan or Sevla.

Tell us a little about yourself and your training in art.
I grew up watching my grandmother paint, her biggest regret was not being able to go into fine arts. Influenced by her, I studied at António Arroio, took a degree in drawing at fbaul and also completed the first year of a master's degree in painting at fbaul.
In addition to being an artist, you are a teacher. How do your students react to this other facet?
They love it. The first thing they ask when they see me is what I painted that day.
What do you prefer? The studio/classroom or the street?
Street.
When did your interest in Street Art start and what were your influences at the time?
I always liked to see it, but my most serious interest started in 2015, when I volunteered at Muraliza in Cascais. The direct contact with the artists Millo, Samina, Bosoletti, Mauro Carmelino (SEBS), Draw, Belém and Fred Aranha fostered in me a curiosity to explore this area.
You've been present at some Graffiti / Street Art Festivals and similar events. What was the one you were most pleased to participate in?
They were all different experiences, I don't have a favorite.
What are your favorite spots / cities?
Anywhere there is an escape with nature I'm fine.
How is your creative process and where do you get your inspirations?
Sometimes intuitive, sometimes planned. I like going to museums and galleries, as well as using Instagram to follow the work of different types of artists.
Do you paint with sketch or freestyle?
Always with reference photo. Sometimes with sketch from the color palette, sometimes I improvise.
Do you prefer to paint alone or in a group?
I like the tranquility of painting alone and without distractions, but I also like going to paint with someone. It depends on the spot.
Who do you like to paint with?
So far I haven't had any problems with anyone I've been painting with. Would repeat the experience with any of them.
As a woman, have you ever been the target of machismo in the Street Art world?
Already. 🙃
You often return to the female figure. Is it one of your favorite themes? Are some of the works self-portraits? As it happens, it is unconsciously. :) I like to explore the figurative and I end up using references that convey something to me. I have some self-portraits on canvas and sketches, but I only use myself as a model when I can't find a reference or photograph someone.
What plays on your playlist when you paint?
It depends on whether you're alone or with someone. A little bit of everything, but what's always going on is old school hip-hop for sure.

Wosk, Cibo, Royyal Dog.
How do you describe the current panorama of Street Art and Graffiti in Portugal?
I think there has been a change of mindset and more openness, not only to street art but also to graffiti.
What is your best work?
I don't have it, my best work is what I haven't painted yet.
What are your future plans / projects?
I don't like to reveal too much about my plans. I have a lot planned but nothing is certain yet.
Do you have a story you want to share?
Some encounters with strange characters in abandoned spots, but the best story was two PSP agents evaluating the collaboration I made with Esor as "very good" and letting me finish another wall that had already started without any complications.
