Na companhia da sua namorada, de Funky e de mais alguns elementos dos DMC, o artista estava a "rebentar" a parede com um retrato de Negan, personagem da série televisiva "The Walking Dead".
Rendido ao seu trabalho, decidi naquele momento que tinha de o entrevistar.
Mais tarde, vim a descobrir que Tars se tinha cruzado com PᎾNᎾ, o meu entrevistado anterior.
Natural de Guarapuava, Brasil, o artista já conta com peças em, pelo menos, 15 países.
É conhecido pelo seu hiper realismo mas não dispensa uma saída para pixar e regressar às origens.
Fiquem a conhecê-lo um pouco melhor e aos seus trabalhos impressionantes.
Antes de mais, fala-nos um pouco sobre ti?
Sou brasileiro, nascido em Guarapuava, uma cidade do interior do estado do Paraná. Tenho 39 anos e desde os 12 estou envolvido na cultura hip hop.
Qual é o significado do teu tag?
Meu tag além de ser uma abreviatura do meu nome também significa (no sentido literal da palavra “Tars”) pavimentar, ou seja, deixar o caminho para que outros possam passar.
Quando começou o teu interesse pelo graffiti e quais foram as tuas influências na altura?
Meu interesse pelo graff começou através do skate e hip hop que andavam juntos na época. Já desenhava quando criança e o pintar pela primeira vez foi aquele momento mágico que me fez seguir até hoje.
És conhecido pelo hiper realismo mas o teu arranque foi através da pichação. O que preferes?
Hoje em dia, o pessoal conhece mais o trabalho de realismo. Antigamente era mais diversão com os amigos e rolava muito tag, pixo, bombing, etc.
Prefiro o realismo bem trabalhado, mas tem dias que sair pra pixar satisfaz o ego e traz uns momentos de nostalgia.
Em quantos países já pintaste?
Não sei exatamente em quantos países já pintei, mas acredito que foram mais de 15 onde já deixei alguma peça.
Qual foi o sítio mais incrível em que já pintaste?
Tem alguns sítios que foram muito importantes pra mim. Tive a oportunidade de pintar em NY (um sonho de adolescente), em Wynwood Miami, em Los Angeles e na cidade onde nasci, onde fui um dos percursores juntamente com dois amigos.
Como é o teu processo criativo e onde vais buscar as inspirações para as tuas obras?
Eu me inspiro muito no realismo, nos detalhes, gosto de “melar” a parede como a gente fala no Brasil, passar horas a tentar buscar o máximo de detalhes nas minhas peças.
Street bombing, train bombing ou wall of fame?
Hoje em dia wall of fame, o bombing esporadicamente e train bombing já ficou pra trás. Quando os filhos aparecem na nossa vida, as responsabilidades aumentam e os riscos diminuem… é outro tipo de adrenalina (risos).
Pintas com sketch ou freestyle?
Faço um bocado dos dois. Pro realismo o sketch é necessário, mas gosto de adaptar o background no momento que estou em frente à parede. Muitas peças também faço no freestyle, depende do flow no dia.
Preferes pintar sozinho ou em grupo?
Para trabalhos comissionados prefiro estar sozinho com a música no ouvido e nada mais. Porém, para pintar na rua quanto mais amigos melhor fica, muito mais divertido e muito mais aprendizado.
O que toca na tua playlist quando pintas?
Toca muito rap anos 90, funk, jazz, samba, hardcore e metal.
Qual é o teu top 3 de artistas / writers portugueses?
Eu conheço pouco dos artistas portugueses, mas fiquei impressionado pela qualidade do pessoal por aqui. Os que me chamaram a atenção foi o Bray, Odeith, Mr Dheo e meu amigo Funky.
E de artistas / writers estrangeiros?
Estrangeiros posso dizer o Smug, Cope, Doze. Mas tem muitos brasileiros que pra mim são kings: Os Gêmeos, Binho, Kobra, Crânio, Edmun, etc.
Com que artista / writer gostarias de fazer uma obra conjunta?
Como descreves o panorama atual do graffiti e da street art em Portugal? Que diferenças encontras em relação ao Brasil?
Portugal acredito que está sempre a crescer, porém acho que faltam eventos onde possam juntar toda a malta, no sentido de fortalecer ainda mais a cena do graff. No Brasil há uma união muito grande, porém falta organização pro movimento crescer ainda mais.
Participas com regularidade em eventos / jams? Qual foi aquele que te marcou mais?
Ultimamente, tenho participado pouco em eventos e jams. Como vivo de trabalhos comissionados há longa data, o tempo fica curto para curtir com o pessoal. Mas quando convidam dou um jeito de participar.
Qual foi o trabalho que te deu mais luta?
Acho que não foi um apenas mas alguns trabalhos comissionados onde o pessoal pede peças super realistas com uma área de trabalho de 1 metro quadrado. Esses dá vontade de chorar, pois não entendem a dificuldade de pintar com spray.
Alguns eventos também foram difíceis, pois tu olha para o lado e, às vezes, tem um cara que tu se inspira no trabalho. Aí, sim, tu tens que dar o máximo de si.
Quais são os teus planos / projetos futuros?
Meus planos para o futuro é estar na estrada e pintar em países diferentes, conhecer novas culturas e adquirir novos aprendizados a cada lugar que passo.
Tens alguma história que queiras partilhar?
Tem uma em San Diego, onde fiz uma peça num restaurante em que o dono era do Cartel de Tijuana. Foi no freehand e ele colocou uma pressão daquele jeito “se tu fizer merda tás fodido”. Mas, no final, ele gostou pra caralho e ganhei uma gorjeta de 400 dólares, além de free pass pra comer no restaurante. Foram emoções aos dois extremos (risos).

First of all, tell us a little about yourself?
I am Brazilian, born in Guarapuava, a city in the interior of the state of Paraná. I'm 39 years old and I've been involved in hip hop culture since I was 12.
What is the meaning of your tag?
My tag, in addition to being an abbreviation of my name, also means (in the literal sense of the word Tars) to pave, that is, to leave the way for others to pass.
When did your interest in graffiti begin and what were your influences at the time?
My interest in graff started through skateboarding and hip hop that went hand in hand at the time. I used to draw as a child and painting for the first time was that magical moment that kept me going until today.
You are known for hyper realism but your start was through graffiti. What do you prefer?
Nowadays, people know more about realism work. In the past, it was more fun with friends and there was a lot of tag, pixo, bombing, etc.
I prefer well-crafted realism, but there are days when going out to pixar satisfies the ego and brings a few moments of nostalgia.
In how many countries have you painted?
I don't know exactly how many countries I've painted, but I believe there were more than 15 where I've left a piece.
What was the most amazing place you've ever painted?
There are some places that were very important to me. I had the opportunity to paint in NY (a teenager's dream), in Wynwood Miami, in Los Angeles and in the city where I was born, where I was one of the precursors together with two friends.
What is your creative process like and where do you get inspiration for your works?
I'm very inspired by realism, in details, I like to “smear” the wall as we say in Brazil, spend hours trying to get as much detail as possible in my pieces.
Street bombing, train bombing or wall of fame?
Nowadays wall of fame, bombing sporadically and train bombing is already behind us. When children appear in our lives, responsibilities increase and risks decrease… it's another kind of adrenaline rush (laughs).
Do you paint with sketch or freestyle?
I do a bit of both. For realism, the sketch is necessary, but I like to adapt the background when I'm in front of the wall. I also do a lot of freestyle pieces, depending on the flow of the day.
Do you prefer to paint alone or in a group?
For commissioned work I prefer to be alone with the music in my ear and nothing else. However, to paint on the street, the more friends the better, much more fun and much more learning.
What plays on your playlist when you paint?
Plays a lot of 90s rap, funk, jazz, samba, hardcore and metal.
What is your top 3 of Portuguese artists/writers?
I know little about Portuguese artists, but I was impressed by the quality of the people here. The ones that caught my attention were Bray, Odeith, Mr Dheo and my friend Funky.
What about foreign artists/writers?
Foreigners can say the Smug, Cope, Doze. But there are many Brazilians who are kings for me: Os Gêmeos, Binho, Kobra, Crânio, Edmun, etc.
Which artist/writer would you like to do a joint work with?
How do you describe the current panorama of graffiti and street art in Portugal? What differences do you find in relation to Brazil?
I believe that Portugal is always growing, but I think there is a lack of events where all the people can gather, in order to further strengthen the graff scene. In Brazil there is a great union, but it lacks organization for the movement to grow even more.
Do you regularly participate in events / jams? Which was the one that impressed you the most?
Lately, I've been participating less in events and jams. As I live from commissioned work for a long time, time is short to enjoy with the staff. But when invited, I find a way to participate.
What was the job that gave you the most struggle?
I think it wasn't just one but some commissioned jobs where people ask for super realistic pieces with a work area of 1 square meter. These ones make you want to cry, because they don't understand the difficulty of spray painting.
Some events were also difficult, because you look the other way and, sometimes, there is a guy that you are inspired by work. So, yes, you have to give your best.
What are your future plans/projects?
My plans for the future are to be on the road and paint in different countries, to get to know new cultures and learn new things every place I go.
Do you have a story you want to share?
There's one in San Diego, where I did a paint in a restaurant owned by a member of Tijuana Cartel. It was in the freehand and he put pressure like “if you do shit you're fucked”. But in the end, he really liked it and I got a $400 tip, plus a free pass to eat at the restaurant. There were emotions at both extremes (laughs).
