O wildstyle é claramente o meu preferido. Quando faço scroll, é aquele que mais cativa a minha atenção e me leva a querer conhecer os writers das peças. Foi o que aconteceu com o Nors (a minha entrevista mais internacional, até ao momento...), o Draner (autor do meu logótipo e um dos próximos entrevistados) ou o Baysking7 (do nosso país irmão).
O meu próximo entrevistado é o Thetan One, chega da Itália e o seu estilo é ímpar.
Quando me apareceu no Instagram, fiquei imediatamente cativado pela cor, pela consistência e pela quantidade das suas peças.

Qual é o significado do teu tag?
O meu tag "Thetan" vem da letra do alfabeto grego "Theta" com a adição de um "n", para criar um som mais agradável. No entanto, adoro passear pelas peças, escrevendo periodicamente novos nomes. Ficar sempre com o mesmo tag aborrece-me e mudar dá-me força e ânimo para criar novas formas.
Quando começou o teu interesse pelo graffiti e quais foram as tuas influências na altura?
Comecei a pintar em 1997. Na cidade onde morava havia muito tédio e encontrar algo divertido e fora do comum era o que procurávamos. Um dia, um amigo da empresa teve a ideia de fazer alguns graffitis. Depois de um curto período de tempo, muitos de nós já nos encontrávamos a experimentar esta nova forma de entretenimento artístico.
Não tínhamos influências particulares, os nossos únicos recursos eram simplesmente algum fanzine ou revista. Lembro-me que fiquei particularmente impressionado com todas aquelas peças "wild style" dos nova-iorquinos, das quais certamente tirei a base para depois criar o meu próprio estilo.
Como era a cena do graffiti quando começaste?
Quando comecei tinha muitos amigos que pintavam e nas cidades vizinhas havia muitos tipos interessados em fazer grafitti. Com o passar do tempo, muitos perderam o rumo e abandonaram essa paixão tomando outras direções na vida.
Fazes parte de alguma crew?
Eu fiz parte de uma crew apenas no começo. Na verdade, nunca fui uma pessoa de crews. Mesmo tendo muitos amigos com quem pintar, nunca procurei uma conexão com um determinado grupo.
Em quantos países já pintaste?
Já pintei em várias cidades italianas de norte a sul. No exterior pintei na Alemanha, Espanha, Suíça, Áustria e Jugoslávia.
Como é o teu processo criativo e onde vais buscar a inspiração para as tuas peças?
Antes de fazer qualquer peça, faço primeiro muitos rascunhos no papel. Estudo durante dias a melhor forma de fazer as letras e as junções entre uma letra e outra, de olho na dinâmica e na forma geral. Quando tenho a certeza de que tenho um bom "throw up" em mãos, passo a executá-lo na parede.
Às vezes estudo as cores e faço um pedido específico de sprays. Noutras ocasiões, improviso um pouco com o que tenho disponível no estoque.
Como classificas o teu estilo?
O meu estilo é o "wild style" clássico de Nova York com o meu toque pessoal.
Qual foi o lugar mais incrível em que já pintaste?
Durante alguns anos pintei numa fábrica a poucos quilómetros da minha cidade. Um edifício abandonado enorme com belas paredes. O cenário envolvente era verdadeiramente surreal e lá dentro havia uma nave que se encontrava sempre em estado de abandono. Lembro-me do silêncio e da vastidão daquele lugar. Para um writer, entrar num lugar desse tipo era como estar num parque de diversões com o constrangimento de ter escolher onde pintar.
O que não pode faltar num bom dia de pintura?
Bem, eu diria algumas cervejas e certamente uma boa música. E se também houver uma mulher bonita que venha ver o artista, é ainda mais agradável!!!!
Pintas com sketch ou freestyle?
Costumo preparar rascunhos em casa, mas não tenho problemas em criar uma peça freestyle.
O que toca na tua playlist quando pintas?
Eu amo o punk rock californiano!
Também pintas em tela? Já fizeste alguma exposição?
Sim, também pinto em tela. Eu faço algumas letras isoladas ou, às vezes, até a peça inteira. Também gosto de criar trabalhos abstratos. Acho uma boa forma de desabafar as emoções.
Já fiz várias exposições pessoais e coletivas no passado, mas neste momento tenho mais interesse em criar peças na parede.
Como você descreves o panorama atual do graffiti na Itália?
Bem, certamente a magia que havia na época não existe mais. As novas gerações não têm aquela vontade de rebeldia e nem dão o corpo para aprender uma arte. Eles querem tudo imediatamente. Com o graffiti e na generalidade das outras artes é preciso perseverança, dedicação, sacrifício e empenho e acho que não têm vontade de obter essas características. Apesar disso, alguns novos writers nascem e crescem de vez em quando, em pequena quantidade em relação ao passado!

Com que writer gostarias de fazer uma peça conjunta? Bem… Com todos os writers que mencionei acima seria realmente uma honra fazer algo juntos!
Em tantos anos ligado ao graffiti, já viste muitos writers e crews ficarem pelo caminho. O que te mantém forte na tua ligação ao movimento? Para mim, a pintura é uma espécie de meditação em que saio da minha mente e recarrego o meu "Espírito de energia". Poderia muito bem acabar com toda a cena do graffiti, mas eu ainda estaria a fazer peças, não importa o quê!
Quais são os teus planos/projetos futuros? Quero fazer cada vez mais peças, aprimorar ainda mais o meu estilo, criar muitos trabalhos em tela para poder viver da arte, só da arte! Eu quero que um dia o meu nome seja lembrado!
Tens alguma história que queiras partilhar? Como todos os writers, tenho mil histórias e anedotas para contar. Daqui a alguns anos, gostaria de escrever um livro que recolhesse este tipo de material assim como o trabalho artístico. Acho que são testemunhos de vida, tão estranhos e inusitados que devem ser anotados e lembrados!

Wildstyle is clearly my favorite. When I scroll, it's the one that captivates my attention the most and makes me want to meet the pieces writers. That's what happened with Nors (my most international interview so far...), Draner (author of my logo and one of the next interviewees) or Baysking7 (from our brother country).
My next interviewee is Thetan One, he comes from Italy and his style is unique.
When it appeared on Instagram, I was immediately captivated by the color, consistency and quantity of its pieces. Meet this alien writer with an otherworldly work.
What is the meaning of your tag?
My tag "Thetan" comes from the Greek alphabet letter "Theta" with the addition of an "n" to create a nicer sound. However, I love wandering through the pieces, periodically writing new names. Staying with the same tag always bores me and changing gives me strength and courage to create new ways.
When did your interest in graffiti start and what were your influences at the time?
I started painting in 1997. In the city where I lived there was a lot of boredom and finding something fun and out of the ordinary was what we were looking for. One day, a friend of the company had the idea to do some graffiti. After a short period of time, many of us found ourselves experiencing this new form of artistic entertainment.
We had no particular influences, our only resources were simply some fanzine or magazine. I remember that I was particularly impressed by all those "wild style" pieces from New Yorkers, from which I certainly took the base to later create my own style.
What was the graffiti scene like when you started?
When I started I had a lot of friends who painted and in the neighboring towns there were a lot of guys interested in doing graffiti. Over time, many lost their way and abandoned this passion, taking other directions in life.
Are you part of any crew?
I was part of a crew just in the beginning. I've never actually been a crew person. Even though I have many friends to paint with, I have never looked for a connection with a certain group.
In how many countries have you painted?
I have painted in several Italian cities from north to south. Abroad I painted in Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Austria and Yugoslavia.
How is your creative process and where do you get the inspiration for your pieces?
Before making any piece, I first make many sketches on paper. I study for days the best way to make the letters and the junctions between one letter and another, keeping an eye on the dynamics and the general form. When I'm sure I have a good "throw up" in hand, I start executing it on the wall.
Sometimes I study the colors and make a specific order for sprays. On other occasions, I improvise a little with what I have available in stock.
How do you rate your style?
My style is classic New York wild style with my personal touch.
What's the most amazing place you've ever painted?
For a few years I painted in a factory a few kilometers from my city. A huge abandoned building with beautiful walls. The surrounding scenery was truly surreal and inside there was a area that was always in a state of disrepair. I remember the silence and the vastness of that place. For a writer, entering such a place was like being in an amusement park with the embarrassment of having to choose where to paint.
What can't be missing from a good painting day?
Well I would say a few beers and certainly some good music. And if there is also a beautiful woman who comes to see the artist, it is even more pleasant!!!!
Do you paint with sketch or freestyle?
I often prepare sketches at home, but I have no problem creating a freestyle piece.
What plays on your playlist when you paint?
I love Californian punk rock!
Do you also paint on canvas? Have you ever had an exhibition?
Yes, I also paint on canvas. I do a few isolated letters or sometimes even the whole piece. I also like to create abstract works. I think it's a good way to vent emotions.
I've done several personal and group exhibitions in the past, but right now I'm more interested in creating pieces on the wall.
How do you describe the current graffiti scene in Italy?
Well, certainly the magic that was there then is gone. The new generations don't have that will to rebel and they don't even give their bodies to learn an art. They want everything right away. With graffiti and in general with other arts, perseverance, dedication, sacrifice and commitment are needed and I don't think they have the will to obtain these characteristics. Despite this, some new writers are born and grow from time to time, a small amount compared to the past!

Well… With all the writers I mentioned above it would really be an honor to do something together!
In so many years connected to graffiti, you've seen many writers and crews fall by the wayside. What keeps you strong in your connection to the movement?
For me, painting is a kind of meditation where I get out of my mind and recharge my "Spirit Energy". Might as well do away with the whole graffiti scene, but I would still be doing parts no matter what!
What are your future plans/projects?
I want to make more and more pieces, improve my style even more, create many works on canvas so I can live off art, just art! I want one day mine name be remembered!
Do you have a story you want to share?
Like all writers, I have a thousand stories and anecdotes to tell. In a few years, I would like to write a book that collects this type of material as well as artistic work. I think they are testimonies of life, so strange and unusual that they must be written down and remembered!
