Quando conheci o meu novo entrevistado há uns anos, numa sessão de pintura organizada pelos TOYS, não pensei que o viria a entrevistar um dia.
Natural de Coimbra, a ligação de GRAVE à Margem Sul começou muito cedo, quando os seus pais se mudaram para Almada. Foi naquela cidade que despertou para o graffiti, em 96/97.
A transição para a tatuagem deu-se por volta de 2010. Praticante do realismo, segue mais pintores (tipo o Jorge Charrua) do que tatuadores, destacando o ucraniano Dimitri e o amigo Diogo Nunes (dois grandes monstros.)
A pintar há mais de 20 anos, o graff trouxe-lhe amigos, com os quais se divertiu muito.
Para os putos que pintam o seu conselho é que "não sejam estúpidos e não andem a crossar toda a gente".

Qual é o significado do teu tag?
O meu tag? O meu tag foi uma troca forçada, porque na altura em que comecei a pintar o pessoal começou a chamar-me pelo meu tag (AZARE), na escola, entre o pessoal, etc. Um dia, em conversa com o gajo que assinava ☠️⛈️☂️🌪️⚡️⭐️🌤️🍄 aka "raios ta parta", decidi trocá-lo para o atual (GRAVE).
Tens formação em arte?
Tenho pois.
Quando começou o teu interesse pelo graffiti e quais foram as tuas influências na altura?
Julgo ter sido em 96/97 e, na altura, as influências eram os locais RESH, TROL, DARKO, HESP, CHASE (PHNSK nos dias de hoje) e um gajo que era o DEN que tinha um bomb em todos os cantos e que, por acaso, nunca conheci. Era o que via em todo o lado quando andava na rua, claro que, mais tarde, tive muitas outras.
Como era a cena no graffiti quando começaste?
A cena quando comecei era demais, existia uma loja na Cova da Piedade que era a loja da Resina e uma no mítico M Bica que era a Big Punch, que era onde íamos comprar latas e nos cruzavamos, às vezes, com os mais velhos e ficávamos a pensar "Txiiii, este gajo é o "X", ganda king, um dia vou pintar como ele". Cenas de putos cromos.
O que preferes? O graffiti ou a tatuagem?
Não pinto regularmente nos dias de hoje, mas diria o Spray.
Quais são as tuas crews?
Quais são os teus spots / cidades preferidos?
Açores. 😂
Preferes wall of fame, street bombing ou train bombing?
Diria street bombing. Mas hoje em dia, pelo convívio, escolhia um fame.
Pintas com sketch ou freestyle?
Freestyle.
Como classificas o teu estilo?
Os meus amigos dizem que é throw up style. Se calhar, vou na cantiga deles.
O que toca na tua playlist quando pintas?
Toca HC (não fosse eu da Margem Sul 😂), toca Hip Hop, toca Metal, toca Jazz,
depende do estado de espírito.
Qual é aquela peça que te falta fazer (pela complexidade, tamanho, local)?
Gostava de experimentar alguma coisa com o style de tattoo que faço.

Como descreves o panorama atual do graffiti em Portugal?
Estou completamente desligado disso, mas ver que fazem workshops de graffiti aborrece-me. Parece que o graffiti agora é uma coisa da moda.

Gostava muito de pintar com o meu puto JORGE CHARRUA.
Tens alguma história que queiras partilhar?
Tenho algumas. 😏
Olha, aquela quando conheci o COISA... Era um gajo que era dos TSK e era conhecido, na altura, por bater em toda a gente.
Na altura, eu fui a um jantar de crew. Eu era dos MDK e o ON era dos TSK e também era dos MDK. Então, a gente juntou-se e fizemos um jantar de crew e dou-me com um gajo a mamar buéda jolas, um gajo buéda bem disposto, bué tranquilo. De repente, saímos dali todos e eu nem sabia o tag dele, estava-me a cagar. Saímos de lá de dentro e quando vamos começar a dar uns tags, qual é que era o tag dele, COISA. Eu olho e digo "Foda-se, então tu é que és o que bate em toda a gente?", e ele disse "Epá, pois. Parece que sim."
E, pronto, ficámos amigos depois desse jantar.
Tens aqui uma históriazinha tranquila de um gajo mau.
Em tantos anos, viste muitos writers e crews ficarem pelo caminho. O que te mantém forte na tua ligação ao movimento?
São os amigos que fiz ao longo destes anos, ver que continuam dedicados desde o tempo em que começámos, volta e meia ir curtir uma pintura com eles e conhecer a malta nova.

What does your tag mean?
My tag? My tag was a forced change, because when I started painting people started calling me by my tag (AZARE), at school, among the staff, etc. One day, in conversation with the guy who signed ☠️⛈️☂️🌪️⚡️⭐️🌤️🍄 aka "damn it", I decided to change it to the current one (GRAVE).

I do.
When did your interest in graffiti begin and what were your influences at the time?
I think it was in 96/97 and, at the time, the influences were the locals RESH, TROL, HESP, CHASE (PHNSK these days) and a guy who was DEN who had a bomb in every corner and who By the way, I never met him. It was what I saw everywhere when I walked down the street, of course, later on, I had many others.
What was the graffiti scene like when you started?
The scene when I started was awesome, there was a store in Cova da Piedade which was the Resina store and one in the mythical M Bica which was Big Punch, which was where we went to buy cans and sometimes crossed paths with older people and We kept thinking "Txiiii, this guy is "X", what a big king, one day I'm going to paint like him". Scenes of nerdy kids.
What do you prefer? The graffiti or the tattoo?
I don't paint regularly these days, but I would say Spray.

Do you prefer wall of fame, street bombing or train bombing?
I would say street bombing. But nowadays, for socializing, I would choose a fame.
Do you paint with sketch or freestyle? Freestyle. How do you classify your style? My friends say it's throw up style. Maybe I'll join their song. What plays on your playlist when you paint? He plays HC (if it weren't for me from Margem Sul 😂), he plays Hip Hop, he plays Metal, he plays Jazz, depends on the mood. What is that piece that you still need to do (due to its complexity, size, location)? I would like to try something with the tattoo style I do.
How would you describe the current graffiti scene in Portugal? I'm completely disconnected from it, but seeing that they do graffiti workshops bothers me. It seems like graffiti is now a trendy thing. What is your top 3 Portuguese writers? It's unfair to be top 3. 😂 I'll give you 3 top 3:
Charrua aka Swing, Ephan and Fire. And foreign writers? O'clock. Which writer would you like to work on together? I really liked painting with my kid JORGE CHARRUA.
Do you have a story you want to share? I have some. 😏 Like the one when I met COISA... He was a guy who was from TSK and was known, at the time, for beating up everyone. At the time, I went to a crew dinner. I was from MDK and ON was from TSK and was also from MDK. So, we got together and had a crew dinner and I found myself seeing a guy drinking a lot, a guy who was in a good mood, very calm. Suddenly, we all left there and I didn't even know his tag, I didn't give a shit. We get out of there and when are we going to start giving some tags, what was his tag... COISA. I look and say "Fuck, so you're the one who hits everyone?", and he said "Hey, that's right. It seems so." And, that's it, we became friends after that dinner. Here's a quiet little story about a bad guy.
In so many years, you've seen many writers and crews fall by the wayside. What keeps you strong in your connection to the movement? It's the friends I've made over the years, seeing that they're still dedicated since the time we started, every now and then I go and enjoy a painting with them and meet new people.
